Fort Pierce police officers on foot patrol heard shots ring out while they were in the 2400 block of Avenue M. While running toward North 24th Avenue and Avenue K an officer saw a black Dodge Dart with no lights illuminated speeding off. The suspect vehicle headed southbound toward Avenue K and officers lost track of it.
Meanwhile, a red automobile was parked nearby in the 1200 block of North 24th Avenue. A 26 year old man was standing near this red vehicle with some friends when officers approached the scene. An officer arrested the Fort Pierce man for firearm possession by a convicted felon. The officer accused the man of firearm possession based on where the man was standing in relation to a firearm that was laying on the back seat of the car.
The officers accused the man, who they labeled a documented drug dealer, of laying the AR-15 on the seat as he arrived on the scene. However, officers had not received any verification that there was a victim related to the shooting, nor did they locate the black vehicle spotted at the scene of the shooting. The man is currently being held without bail in the St. Lucie County Jail.
